Marty Chitty

Republican Candidate for House District 51

Marty Chitty is a Former Story County Supervisor, Current President of the Nevada School Board and resident of rural Nevada, Iowa.

He is seeking the Republican Nomination to represent Iowa House District 51, which covers several rural areas and communities in both Story and Marshall County.

Doing What’s Right:

My Values and My Vision

During my service as a Story County Supervisor, I strived to work hard on behalf of all residents of the County by making common sense, logic-based decisions that strengthened the County’s economy and promoted private sector job growth, while ensuring the funding necessary to meet our County’s needs in areas of mental health, roads and bridges, and veterans services were maintained.  As a member of the Iowa House of Representatives, it is critical that Iowa, especially our rural communities, continue to be recognized as ‘open for business’ by businesses and industries desiring to locate or expand their workforce in Iowa. As a State Representative, I will be a champion for rural Iowa, our communities, and our fellow citizens.

As you know, I spent nearly 25 years working for FedEx, and throughout my career, I embraced two key ideals:

  1. Be Real. Be genuine.
  2. Do right, because younger generations are looking at your example.

These ideals guide me each day; my wife, Jenny, and I instilled these ideals in our children; and these are the ideals that will guide me as a State Representative.

Doing What’s Right for Iowa:

Maintaining a strong commitment to fiscal responsibility will be necessary to ensure our State meets its priorities. As a rural resident, I know first-hand the need to have quality roads and bridges in rural areas and will continue to advocate for infrastructure improvements in our rural areas—which also includes continued support for the deployment of broadband across all areas of our State. This is not only important for our farmers, small businesses and rural communities but also for emergency services to enhance responsiveness to the needs of Iowans located in rural Iowa.

Doing What’s Right for Education:

As a life-long rural resident near Nevada, Iowa, my parents instilled in me the values of hard work, dedication and determination; and now as a parent, my wife and I have worked diligently to instill those same values in our children. I also believe in giving-back when able; for the 10 years prior to becoming a County Supervisor as well as for the past four years, I had the opportunity to serve as a member of the Nevada School Board, where I currently serve as the school board president.  As a school board member, as well as its president, I’ve been committed to ensuring that the Nevada School treats each student, teacher and staff member as individuals and also to avoid unnecessary grouping of students into demographic groups segmented by various DEI ideologies.

As your State Representative, I’ll be committed to eliminating woke ideologies in both K-12 and Higher Education here in Iowa, enhancing educational opportunities for all students, and working to reform higher education in Iowa to best meet our State’s needs, priorities and goals for both workforce training, economic growth and technology transfer, and efficient spending of tax payer dollars in education at all levels.

Doing What’s Right for You:

As the State Representative for Iowa House District 51, I promise you that I will continue to work hard on behalf of all of our residents and communities to ensure that Iowa is the best place to live, work, receive an education and raise a family.

To do so:

  1. The State of Iowa must strengthen our State’s commitment to mental health services—especially in rural Iowa.
  2. The State of Iowa must develop a comprehensive partnership between K-12 schools, communities, law enforcement and mental health providers, to implement a meaningful and goal-oriented approach to a reformed school resource officer program.
  3. The State of Iowa must implement new laws to prevent foreign-ownership of farm land.
  4. The State of Iowa must strengthen its laws to prevent the utilization of eminent domain for non-public projects. A private business should not be able to utilize the State powers of eminent domain to take farm land from hard working Iowans.
  5. The State of Iowa must reform its entire income tax system, with the elimination of the individual income tax as the first step. Reforming the State of Iowa Tax Code will provide new opportunities for Iowans and businesses to expand and invest in our State, thereby strengthening our local communities and economies.

“I look forward to serving the residents of House District 51 when elected as the Republican Nominee for Iowa House District 51 on June 4, 2024.”
